Stephen

Memory Verse:

“Love your enemies.” (Luke 6:27).

Memory verse activity:

Use a hoop, chalk, piece of string, or cardboard etc to make a
large circle on the floor. Children stand around the circle then
take three giant steps backwards. They should now be facing
the circle but a short distance away.
• Have a ball for each child. Each child
tries to roll their stone into the marked circle. If it reaches the
circle they recite the memory verse and sit down.
• If the stone misses, they have another go from where it landed
until it is in.
• Repeat until all children have had a turn.

Story:

Acts 6&7
Story Summary
1. Stephen was wise and filled with the Holy
Spirit.
2. He was chosen to help out, so that the
apostles could spend their time teaching.
3. Stephen’s enemies told lies about him
and took him to court. When the council
looked at him they thought he had a face
like an angel.
4. He spoke to them about how God had
used faithful men like Abraham, Jacob,
Joseph and Moses to guide Israel.
5. He reminded them how often they had
refused to listen to God’s messengers and
that they had killed God’s Son, Jesus.
6. The people became angry with Stephen,
dragged him out of the city.
7. They threw stones at him until he died, but
before he died, Stephen asked the Lord to
forgive these people.

Craft:

. Make a ‘face like an angel’. Before class, cut the centre out
of paper plates (one for each child) and attach a paddlepop
stick to the bottom of each. The children can then decorate
the rim of the plate with glitter, stars, alfoil. Hold over face to
produce their very own angel face.
