Paul’s First Missionary Journey

Memory Verse:

Galatians 5:16

New King James Version
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Memory Verse Activity:

The children take turns at making a slowly moving path of light
on the floor using a torch. The torch holder repeats the memory
verse “walk in the Spirit” while the remaining children take turns at
walking on the light spot that whatever child is moving.

Story:

Acts 13 & 14

Lesson Introduction
1. Ask the children if they have ever had a
long trip away? Did they go through lots
of towns? Did it take a long time? How
did they travel - car, plane, train?
2. Remind the children about last week’s
story and how Paul’s life was changed.
Paul wanted to share about Jesus to people
everywhere. Talk about how Paul and
Barnabas travelled (maybe the children
could guess) - by foot, by boat, perhaps by
donkey.

Story Summary
1. Paul and Barnabas were sent by the Holy
Spirit on a long journey to teach people
about Jesus. The Lord used Paul and
Barnabas for many signs and wonders.
2. They went on a boat to the town of
Paphos. They were invited to visit an
important man in the town who wanted to
hear the word of God. A magician tried to
stop them sharing about God, but the Lord
showed His power through Paul. The
magician was made blind for a time, and
the important man believed in Jesus.
3. Mostly people were glad to hear about
Jesus, but some people in one town were
angry and jealous after Paul had healed
a crippled man. They threw stones
at him until he was nearly dead. God
looked after Paul and with the help of the
believers he was soon on his way again.
4. On their way home, Paul and Barnabas
prayed and fasted with the believers in the
new churches. When they arrived home,
Paul and Barnabas told all their friends
how lots and lots of people had come to
know and believe in Jesus

Craft:

Print out this map of Paul's journey (or one very similar. Keep it simple)

Have the children draw a map of Paul’s journey using paint, crayons, or felt
pens.
