Memory Verse:
Acts 26:18
New King James Version
To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light.....
Memory Verse Activity:
• Have the children sit in a line with their eyes closed. One child
is called out (he/she could say “What do you want me to do?”)
and is given a ball to gently roll towards the children. At the
same time he/she calls out “open their eyes”.
• The children all open their eyes to see who will receive the
ball. The receiver then says the memory verse, changes places with the ball roller and the
action is repeated until all children have had a turn at rolling
the ball.
Story:
Acts 7:58;
8:1-3; 9:1-31;
22:1-21; 26:2-20
Lesson Introduction
1. Use a flannelgraph with two figures, Paul
and Ananias, a picture of bright light and
a small wicker basket. Or use two dolls to
represent Paul and Ananias and a torch for
the bright light which shone upon Paul.
2. Discuss with the children how sometimes
we think we are doing the right thing but
people who know better, such as Mum and
Dad, tell us that we are wrong. Tell the
children that today’s story is about a man
who thought he was doing right, but Jesus
had to show him that he was wrong.
3. Talk about how it might feel to be blind
suddenly. Ask the children to close their
eyes, pretend to be blind and perform
simple tasks such as, touch your nose,
stand up, turn around, walk three steps.
Story Summary
1. Saul, who was later called Paul, hated
Christians and always tried to stop them
talking about Jesus.
2. He was on his way to Damascus to put
Christians in prison when a great light
from heaven shone around him and Saul
fell to the ground blinded.
3. Jesus told Saul to go to Damascus and
wait. Saul’s friends led him to the city
where he didn’t eat or drink for three days.
4. Jesus sent a disciple called Ananias to
Saul to restore his sight. Ananias was
afraid at first because he knew how evil
Saul had been to the Christians, but he
obeyed Jesus and laid his hands on Saul.
Immediately Saul could seen again.
5. Saul spoke about Jesus and the Jews
became angry and decided to kill him.
His new friends helped him to escape by
lowering him in a large basket over the
wall of the city.
